The Hobbit (2012):

I have to admit that I wasn’t a fan of the “new trilogy” idea. The Hobbit is a very short book, and I didn’t know how they could make three 3-hour-long films from just one book. But when the film opened with the fall of Erebor, I knew it will be worth it. It was brilliant. It felt like the very beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring, when Sauron is defeated. And just like in the first LOTR film, the next scene was the Shire and this great music theme by Howard Shore. We met Bilbo and I was astounded to see how much the old and young Bilbo look alike. At first I was afraid I would only see Martin Freeman as “the actor who plays Watson in Sherlock” but he’s actually really good. But the most impressive thing is that all the “old” actors (including Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm and Christopher Lee) don’t seem to have aged at all. Ten years later! It was fantastic. The music, the places, the dialogues, everything was just perfect.

My favourite scene was when Gandalf, Bilbo and the dwarves reached Rivendell, and the white council that follows. But I’m not going to tell you more because obviously, you have to see it with your own eyes

I can’t wait for December 2013 & 2014

So my advice is, if you loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy, don’t hesitate and don’t resist, you HAVE to see The Hobbit!

It will be a school exchange, so I only have to decide which places the Dutch pupils will visit when they’re in France, and the Dutch teacher is taking care of everything in the Netherlands. However, it’s a lot of work and a big responsibility, but I’m glad to travel with my class because these kids are nice. And it’s great to have the opportunity to travel, because I’ve only visited Germany and Belgium so far, so the Netherlands will be a first for me. I’m super excited!
